Belinda Wilson

Belinda Wilson Artist

Many of you may find Belinda’s beautiful work familiar; she has been a full-time painter for many years, her pieces gracing many a wall in both New Zealand homes and abroad.

Born in India, educated in Timaru and 1975 honours graduate of the prestigious Elam School of Art, Belinda is one accomplished lady. After almost two decades exploring beyond the shores of Aotearoa, and an extended occupation in Auckland with her family, Belinda now resides in a quaint Nelson cottage.

Belinda’s work is all-encompassing—she leans into gestural shapes and adores intriguing colour composition. Her paintings are her diary entries; they are instinctive expressions of the comings and goings in her life—bidden and unbidden. As such, she says they sometimes surprise her, which we think is what makes her paintings so capturing! Her motif involves the movements of people in all walks of life, demonstrated by the way we can almost feel the future impulses of her figures’ bodies. It’s clear that Belinda is considerate of how her muses connect with their surroundings—these are truly special pieces that jump off the canvas.

We are thrilled at the opportunity to host a wonderful collection of her original works.
