Annie Smits Sandano

Annie Smits Sandano Artist

Annie is an award-winning artist who has exhibited extensively in New Zealand and abroad for over 13 years since her graduation from Elam School of Fine Arts, as an honours student. Based between Auckland and London with her Tannery Arts studio, Annie’s expertise ranges from painting to ceramics and printmaking.

Utilising colour, texture and light in a unique and distinctive way, Annie’s collectable print series have garnered much recognition and following over the years. Her works found themselves in in the Private Collection of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and her achievements include being a finalist in both the 2019 Portage Ceramic Award and the 2020 Waiheke Small Sculpture Award.

Here at Turua, we have a wonderful selection of Annie’s woodcut prints which we are certain you will fall in love with. Made individually through traditional hand-carving techniques, these art pieces make a special edition to any space. The authenticity of her works don’t stop there—the hand carved wooden plates are run manually through a printing press, a process that has been used for centuries. The inks are hand-mixed, and all embossing is hand-carved and printed as an additional layer on works with relief. It is safe to say Annie’s artworks are a labour of pure love. We promise these are even more breath-taking in real life.

Most recently, Annie kicked off 2023 with her second fabulous solo show with us, "Sun Seekers". A charming selection of her work from this exhibition is here for you to come and admire!
