Painting from her studio in the Waitākere Ranges, Abbey Lyman creates vibrant artworks in an eye-catching abstract style.
Fully immersed in the creative scene, she has achieved a Master of Fine Arts from AUT, taught life drawing at the university level, and worked as a guest tutor at the renowned Auckland Art Gallery. Throughout all this, Abbey has been honing her skills as a talented independent artist.
Abbey’s artistic journey is driven by a fascination with how seemingly contradictory elements can come together in surprising ways. As much an explorer as a painter, she delves deeply into the interplay of harmony and tension in her work. When Abbey paints, she navigates between deliberate, methodical strokes and spontaneous, urgent responses. Some parts of her process are calm and meditative, while others are on the brink of something new and exciting, often requiring quick adjustments.
Thriving on the challenge of blending structured techniques with disruptive, spontaneous elements, her lively pieces never settle into predictability. The result is a striking balance between order and chaos, achieved through vibrant oils and acrylics.
