Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about art

An original print is a cleverly hand-crafted design, pressed into a bespoke artwork. For example a screen print, lithograpgh or etching. Unlike art prints, these aren’t reproducible. Simply put, once a piece has sold, there will never be any more like it.

The many names and options associated with art prints can be mind-boggling (like giclee), but here at Turua Gallery, this is all you need to know:

These prints depict either high-resolution images of original artworks, or clever digital illustrations. Depending on the kind, art prints can be open edition (unlimited prints), or limited edition, which ranges in availability from 200 to a competitive 10 prints. Most commonly, these works are printed on high quality archival paper with archival inks, which are known to be long lasting.

The difference is all about reflection and UV protection.

Museum glass has 99% UV protection and is non-reflective - they actually use this in museums!

Conservation glass has 99% UV protection, but is reflective.

Ultravue has 70% UV protection and is non-reflective - this is our preferred option - it's very good protection for artwork in our NZ environment and being non-reflective you can see the piece clearly.

We don't recommend standard glass as it's highly reflective and only offers about 30% UV protection which means your artwork will fade.

We do offer bespoke framing for any works purchased in the gallery.

Yes absolutely - many of our artists offer commissions (we do have some who don't). Please get in touch with Melissa at the gallery to discuss your personalised piece. Contrary to popular belief, commissions are no more expensive than pieces bought directly from the gallery walls.

We love contemporary, original artwork from New Zealand artists. Please email Melissa at the gallery with a link to some examples of your work, or include some images within the email and an indication of pricing so we can consider if your work would be a good fit for our gallery.

Exhibitions

You are able to pick it up from the day after the exhibition closes.

Once an exhibition is over, pieces would usually be shipped on the following Tuesday after an exhibition closes. This is so pieces are not in transit over a weekend (we are closed on Mondays).

Join the gallery database by heading to our subscribe page on the website.

We need to make sure your artwork arrives in perfect condition so we package each piece with care and appropriate materials before shipping. But the good news is there are no extra charges for rural delivery.

Due to the oversized nature of some items, we need to use specialised delivery options. In these cases we arrange a custom shipping price for you. To arrange this please hit the "Enquire" button for the piece you're interested in and we will contact you.

Yes you can. For example if you had 2 gift cards, each with a different amount, you can use these either online (if they're digital gift cards) or in-gallery (if they're physical gift cards).
