Lucy Rice is a talented full-time artist painting from her quiet seaside studio in Snell’s Beach, North Auckland, where she lives with her husband and three children. Her acrylic works fuse together physical and emotional landscapes to create eye-catching abstract masterpieces.
With a BFA from Elam School of Fine Art and 10 years of successfully running her own photography business under her belt, Lucy pivoted her focus to the paintbrush in 2019 – and we are ecstatic that she did! Her works are represented in both Australia and New Zealand, and Turua Gallery is so glad to share in the honour.
Layering oil pastels within an acrylic medium helps Lucy to deepen the abstract shapes present in her work, serving as a conduit for sensation and emotion. She tends to favour natural earth elements, metaphysics, and nostalgia to guide the theme of her artworks. Just a quick glance at Lucy’s work highlights how enraptured she is by the composition of expressive forms and brushstrokes.
In Lucy’s paintings you’ll find a harmonious balance of colour, form and marks that deeply enrich the space. Her artistry is not just about visual aesthetics, but also about creating a vibrant, emotive presence within any environment – and we just can’t get enough of it!
While her gorgeous finished works are readily available in the gallery, Lucy is also available for special commissions on request.
