Liss and Dean share a long-time love of art - in fact, one of their first dates was wandering around Auckland City’s galleries. After running a successful design agency together for twenty years, they decided to chase their dream of creating a space that warmly celebrates all manners of New Zealand art. So, in early 2019 in St Helier’s village, Turua Gallery was born!

While Dean has recently stepped back from working with the team on the day to day running of the gallery to focus on his own career as a full time artist, Liss can be found in the gallery most days working alongside our lovely team, meeting & chatting with our artists, regular clients & those discovering us for the first time. 

The gallery has a close team who are all highly passionate about our art and artists & have a keen eye for pieces you might enjoy. We find joy in all aspects of the gallery -hanging pieces, openings, and of course, meeting visitors (you!). 

Along with Liss & Dean, we have recently welcomed Ruby as the new full time gallery manager.

Other friendly faces you will see when you visit the gallery are Jo, Matilda, Simon & Gilly, who along with Lucy, you will often get to chat to while they are topping up your bubbly at one of their buzzing opening nights.

Liss delights in organising commissions and sourcing works, often direct from the artists, that are special to Turua visitors. With an instinct for space and style, she takes works right to your doorstep for personal viewings.
