The Sea Is In My DNA

ELEMENTS EXHIBITION

Made from watermarked corrugated iron rescued from Tāmaka Makaurau Auckland, dried seaweed from Northland, finely cut and twirled copper sheeting and old fishing hooks.

Like many New Zealanders, Gilly grew up with the sea being an integral part of her life. Swimming, body board surfing (oh those rashes from the polystyrene board were something to behold), fishing, getting sunburnt and collecting shells. This cross celebrates all of those memories, and just as an aside - if you're worried about the fishing hooks I have cut off the sharp end.

230mm (w) x 330mm (h)
