Brazilian-born, New Zealand-based artist Maico Camilo with Unapologetically Dazzling, a high-energy solo exhibition featuring approximately 20–25 works drawn from his My Wonderful Self, Infinite Bloom, Abstract and Bold Figuratives series.
The exhibition is an unapologetic celebration of colour, confidence and creative liberation, bringing together heavily textured abstract works and expressive, wide-eyed figurative paintings.
Through neon layers, clashing patterns, bold checkerboards and dense impasto textures, Camilo creates an exuberant visual world that encourages viewers to embrace brilliance without hesitation.
“Unapologetically Dazzling is really about embracing who you are without needing permission,” says Camilo. “I want the work to feel alive – full of colour, energy and emotion. There is a freedom in allowing yourself to be seen and in not trying to make everything fit neatly into a box.”
Over almost two decades, Maico's work has been exhibited and collected internationally, with invitations to show in New York, Milan, Paris, Sydney, Tokyo and Venice, as well as at Auckland Museum.
Opening night will be held on Friday, 16 October from 5pm at Turua Gallery, with the exhibition running until 28 October.
Collection will be online from 6pm opening night and any pieces that are available at that time will also be able to be purchased online.
