Study of Rachel Ruysch, Flower Still Life, c 1726
Acrylic & oil stick on canvas
1400mm (w) x 1400mm (h)
I particularly enjoyed Rachel Ruysch’s. It is believed that she incorporated elements of decay into her works to extend their beauty beyond mere aesthetics, including the transience of life, mortality, and the life cycle.
These ideas intrigued me, and also the attempt to recreate her work with violent brushstrokes in direct comparison to the Dutch Golden Age realism was a desired challenge. I do not believe I have improved her “Flower Still Life, c. 1726 painting”.
I think I have simply looked at it through the lens of our current contemporary world.
