It Takes A Village

ELEMENTS EXHIBITION

4 piece Installation
Made from corrugated iron, waxed cord, mercerised thread and fishing line.

This beautiful white iron was rescued from Northland and is actually the underside of the iron, with many layers of varnish on it to protect the gorgeous white paint. These crosses are from what Gilly calls her Aotearoa series  - and the fishing line is an integral part of this series because it speaks of the sea and the sky as well as our love of fishing and of course our creation legend.

The theme behind this installation is that quite simply it takes a village to raise a child. The cross on the right hand side of the installation is the piece that the group is named after. Gilly designed this weave with the vertical lines in the pattern representing the people that we have all had in our lives - guiding us along our journey. The cross roads in the middle signify the choice we have in what direction we take.
