They complement each other beautifully and we adore the tones and patina of the rescued corrugated iron, charred recycled beehives and luminous style of painting on board in the same spaces.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eFor ‘Elements’ much loved recycled beehive artist Claudia has continued to explore the textural qualities of charred discarded beehive wood, creating a new identity from the weathered boxes. Her works are created by meticulously fragmenting old beehives in a non-symbolic approach. Within a reduced visual vocabulary of circles, squares, rectangles, and lines, she explores the subtlety of colour, scale, and composition.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIn her first ever joint exhibition, Gilly’s work aims to celebrate the iron by turning it into something of beauty, evolving from a utilitarian piece of iron - with the stories of Aotearoa woven around it.  The weaving is Gilly's way of representing the interconnecting hereditary lines that make up who we are. It’s a show case of the skills that have been passed down from generation to generation in the myriad of cultures that are part of being from Aotearoa. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eKylie's collection encompasses both her luminous paintings and her highly skilled lithographic prints with a focus on the much loved Waitemata Harbour between North Head and Rakino Island.  Works include North Head, Waiheke, Motuihe, Rakino Island and Brown’s Island. Kylie considers that her artworks are not realism, instead her representation of the landscape, the feeling and memory she has towards the landscape. With a clever use of colour \u0026amp; subtle variations of light \u0026amp; texture the pieces in this collection represent different times of the day.\u003cmeta The pink was just from the edges of the iron - it would not have been visible from the outside so Gilly loves the fact that it is now getting its chance to come out into the sun. Some of the thread in this installation is also very special. The thin white thread was sourced from a second hand store in Wānaka so it will have its own story. The Salmon pink thick waxed cord was bought in Spain and Gilly loves the fact that there were probably tourists who came from Spain to see the pink and white terraces which this installation celebrates. They were hidden underneath the corrugate at just one end. A rare find. Gilly was devastated when she cut them but hand, so much of the paint flaked off - they were left bare and a little barren. Gilly sat there for a while feeling sorry for herself until she realised that all around her were these beautiful delicate pieces of paint. Gilly swept up every little gem she could find - and decided to breath new life into this iron by gluing it back on.
